Terberg Benschop at the NLdoet national volunteering day 2016
On Saturday 12 March, 11 highly motivated volunteers from Terberg Benschop participated in NLdoet, a nationwide volunteering event in the Netherlands. The NLdoet web site offered a wide range of activities and our people decided to help the Eetbaar IJsselstein group. Eetbaar IJsselstein aims to make the residents of IJsselstein, a village close to our plant at Benschop, feel more connected to the local greenery and each other.
The work included maintenance of the historical herb garden in the centre of IJsselstein and helping to create a new garden at De Hooghe Camp for the Mariënstein residential care centre. We were lucky that the weather was good, as all this work had to be done outdoors. The historical herb garden was created two years ago and has become a popular meeting place for local residents.
At 10 am, five employees of Terberg Benschop and some other volunteers started work on the garden which had to be prepared for the new season. They put their energy into pruning, weeding and planting. There was also some heavier work to be done, such as building a bamboo pergola and two composting bins.
After an hour or two of hard work they finished in the herb garden and joined the rest of the volunteering team for lunch at the Mariënstein residential care centre.
A new vegetable garden and sensory garden are being created at De Hooghe Camp. It will become a place of repose and a meeting point for residents of the residential care centre during their walks. Here, the work including creating planted borders and paths, making a planter, placing topsoil, spreading gravel on the new paths, building a pergola from tree trunks, etc.
