First pile for new warehouse in Benschop
On Friday 24 February, alderman Mr. G. Spelt of the municipality of Lopik drove the first pile for the new central warehouse of Terberg Benschop B.V.
The construction of the modern, partly automated warehouse will complete the extension of Terberg's premises in Benschop. The warehouse will enter operations towards the end of 2017 and it will be used for components for terminal and RoRo tractor assembly and after-market supply.
In 2007 Terberg started negotiations with the municipality and the owner of the neighbouring site to expand the operations. Such a site expansion is quite difficult to arrange in the "Green Heart" of the Netherlands. Terberg eventually bought the adjacent farm and 16,000 m² of it was rezoned for industrial use. This enabled Terberg to continue its operations at Benschop where the business started in 1869 as a village forge. Terberg urgently had to expand the plant to meet the worldwide demand for their special vehicles.
The municipality is proud that Terberg will continue its role as a major employer in the village. When the new entrance to the Terberg site is completed traffic through the village centre will be greatly reduced, to the benefit of local residents.
