The units will be delivered in batches starting from November 2015 through March 2016 for deployment in Jebel Ali Port, the world’s ninth largest container port with a capacity of over 17 million TEUs, which will increase to 19 million TEU later this year.

Largest order for Terberg’s plant at Benschop
In addition to being largest order for Terberg’s plant at Benschop, the Netherlands, this is also the single largest order for terminal tractors placed by DP World.
The order reflects the confidence that DP World has placed in Terberg equipment. This is further demonstrated in Terberg Middle East FZE being awarded an Excellent Vendor Award for the third consecutive year.

Terberg’s UAE office also locally stocks spare parts, enabling our value customers like DP World, UAE Region maintain a smaller inventory for their yard tractor fleet. The majority of the new tractors purchased in this contract will replace ageing equipment and contribute towards maximizing uptime for operations and reducing operational costs for DP World’s in-house workshops.

Three tractor versions
Most of the Terberg tractors ordered by DP World, UAE Region are powered by Cummins engines with Allison transmissions. Ten tractors out of the order will be powered with the latest Volvo TAD850VE engines, while further ten will be equipped with ZF AS-Tronic transmissions, an automated manual transmission offers better fuel saving than conventional automatic transmission, with lower maintenance costs. These two special tractor versions are ordered as part of DP World’s commitment to innovative technology that delivers the lowest possible fuel consumption, high reliability and affordable maintenance.

All the tractors will be fitted with Continental Terminal tyres, which during a trial period had significantly longer lifetime than standard tyres.

Dedicated training units
Driven by its focus on employee safety, DP World, UAE Region’s approach is for a sustainable solution to ensure a safe environment for trainee terminal drivers. Terberg is pleased to offer a solution by supplying customised training tractors. DP World’s order includes four double cabin training tractors, complete with brake pedals for the instructors in the training centre at Jebel Ali Port. The units will be supplied in a different colour than the conventional tractors for easy identification by other traffic. They will be built in line with DP World’s specification so they can be used to train drivers while working within the terminal.

RoRo-tractors
DP World, UAE Region also placed an additional order of five Terberg RT223 tractors for deployment in general cargo operations at Jebel Ali and Mina Rashid port in Dubai, adding to the existing Terberg fleet for Ro-Ro operations, steel and bulk cargo.
